XAUUSD Outlook, 4–6 November 2026: Election Shock vs Fed Gravity Into Payrolls
Market analysis · XAUUSD · 4–6 November 2026 · Outlook
Educational analysis only. Not investment advice or a trade signal. Written 4 November, about 14:30 UTC+3, ahead of US payrolls on Friday 6 November.
Summary. Gold has repriced above $4,000 on a weaker dollar after the US midterm results. The same market still prices a high chance of another Federal Reserve rate hike in December. That leaves two forces pulling in opposite directions: a political shock that weakened the dollar, and monetary policy that keeps gold expensive to hold. Friday’s payrolls report is the next event likely to decide which one dominates. This outlook sets out the zones and conditions The Strategist Analyst is watching. It does not predict the outcome.
1. Context
- The shock. Projections of Democratic control of Congress weakened the dollar and pulled Treasury yields lower. Gold moved back above $4,000 (CNBC; TradingKey). The dollar index fell to about 101.50, a five-week low (FinanceFeeds).
- The counterweight. CME FedWatch still showed roughly a 78% probability of a December rate hike, little changed from Tuesday (FinanceFeeds). Higher rates raise the cost of holding gold, which pays no interest.
- The decider. US October payrolls are due on Friday 6 November. A strong report would support the hike case. A weak one would support the weaker-dollar case.
- The bigger picture. Despite today’s move, gold remains far below its January record above $5,500. The rebound is a recovery inside a larger correction, not yet a new trend.

2. Market structure
- Intraday (M15): bullish. Price broke the equal highs near 3,970 that had capped it on 2 and 3 November, then extended to around 4,050. That is a clean break of structure to the upside.
- Dealing range. The new range runs from the breakout area (3,960–3,970) to today’s high near 4,050. Price is trading in the upper part of it, which is premium. Buying strength into premium is where late entries tend to get caught.
- What is not yet confirmed. A single catalyst-driven expansion has not yet been tested by a pullback. The first retest is what shows whether the breakout has real acceptance.
3. Liquidity and zones of interest
- Overhead: today’s high near 4,050 is now the nearest buy-side liquidity. Above it, there is no recent structure on this chart.
- $4,000: a psychological level that price has just reclaimed. Whether it holds as support is the first test.
- Breakout area, 3,960–3,970: former supply and equal highs, now broken. If the breakout is genuine, this is where buyers should defend on a deeper pullback.
- Origin of today’s move, about 3,918–3,933: the swept Asian low and the order block the expansion came from. It is the base of the bullish leg.
- Deeper structure: demand near 3,893–3,900, then the 30 October low near 3,870.
4. Scenarios
Bullish conditions
The bullish case needs price to hold above $4,000, or at least above the 3,960–3,970 breakout area, on any pullback. A pullback that holds and is followed by a fresh break above the 4,050 high would show acceptance of the new range. Fundamentally, this scenario is easier if payrolls disappoint and the dollar keeps weakening.
Bearish conditions
The bearish case needs price to fall back below 3,960–3,970 and accept there, meaning closes inside the old range rather than wicks. That would turn today’s breakout into a failed one, a classic liquidity grab above the highs. Fundamentally, this is easier if payrolls come in strong and revive the Fed-hike trade.
5. Invalidation
The bullish structure is invalidated by acceptance below the origin of today’s move, around 3,918–3,933. Below that, the market would be back to testing the 3,893–3,900 demand and the 30 October low.
Risk note. A scheduled high-impact release such as payrolls can move gold sharply in either direction within minutes. Spreads can widen and price can gap through levels. Conditions described here can change in a single candle.
6. Review (to be added)
Reviewed 7 November 2026. Payrolls came in strong (+165,000 against about 65,000 expected), the macro condition the bearish case named. The technical condition did not follow: the post-release low was about 4,027, so price never accepted below 3,960–3,970, and the 3,918–3,933 invalidation was not touched. Price then reversed into 4,071–4,087 supply, which capped it twice on the day. Full review: XAUUSD NFP Session Review, 6 November 2026.
